Basis of religion
In his letter of Sept. 15, Gary Whitesell is still singing his same old song and dance of the scientific method (S.M.). If the S.M. is so vaunted, why has it not produced one tangible proof of a species becoming another species, i.e evolution theory (E.T.).
Whitesell said that S.M. can only be proven through negation, which means to throw out untrue or unproven things to arrive at the truth. His own words give the lie to S.M., as they can't prove E.T.
By negation, they would have to throw out E.T., yet they cling to E.T. as holy writ.
Even though it is a false doctrine, they cling to it by faith. They can never admit E.T. is the base of a religion (secular humanism) as separation of church and state would force it from our schools.
Whitesell deserves credit for arguing his case like a gentleman, and I commend him for it.
Whitesell said we all live in ignorance of ultimate truths. This old farmer knows of two such. The Bible says Jesus is truth: ultimate truth. The second is everyone spends eternity somewhere.
I ask you all, why not spend it with Jesus. Think seriously about it.
Don Desbien
Palco
"A lie travels halfway around the world before the truth can get its boots on." Time to pull on my boots and wade through this last letter of Desbien's, which has so many lies that an ol' farmer like Desbien should recognize the scent. 1. Evolution has been observed. As in, new species evolving right under our noses. 2. The evidence for man/ape common ancestry (BTW, an ape isn't the same critter as a monkey . . . ) goes well beyond the % shared DNA. In 1992, researchers detected evidence of a deactivated centromere sequence in human chromosome 2. Centromeres are regions normally found in the middle of chromosomes. The second centromere sequence was located right where it was expected to be found, based on the already identified corresponding chromosome in chimpanzees. This discovery also confirmed the fusion hypothesis. 3. . . . of course, Desbien could argue that he knows more about evolution than the tens of thousands of scientists around the world who've studied it for decades. We pray that Mr. Desbien enjoys good health. If he finds himself in need of serious medical attention, will he consult his doctor or his plumber? So why is the anti-science Desbien so eager to get us to believe that he knows more about science than the scientists themselves? "Pride goeth before the fall" sounds like a mantra Desbien should take to heart. 4. Any reader tempted to take Desbien's opinions as gospel should check out The Crackpot Index at http://www.math.ucr.edu/home/baez/crackpot.html . Peace!

...much to Mr. Desbien's chagrin, i'm sure... the united states has not turned to a theocratic form of government. our country is to celebrate all forms of religion, or no religion at all. it doesn't really matter! I must admit though, that it gets frustrating to deal with the generation or so left that still tries to make our country a theocracy (and all the bigotry and hatred that would come with that form of government)

. . . and your point?: 7/17/2008
Why doesn't our Constitution have any mention of God, Jesus, or Christianity? Why are religious tests for office explicitly forbidden in the Constitution?
