Leonard R. Schneider Sr.
Leonard R. Schneider Sr., 69, Salina, formerly of Minneapolis, Minn., and WaKeeney, died Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008.
He was born May 27, 1939, in Hays, to Harm and Elsie (Eichman) Schneider. He was a 1957 graduate of Trego Community High School.
He married Nadine Rodgers on April 12, 1959. He worked as a mason, then began working on the family farm in WaKeeney. After farming many years, he had various jobs that included Flex King, Quinter, Halblieb Construction, WaKeeney, USD 208 school bus driver, WaKeeney, and later worked at Presbyterian Manor as a maintenance supervisor retiring in 2001. He served in the U.S. Navy as a machinist's mate on the USS Lenawee No. 195.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a Master Mason, member of Salina Blue Lodge No. 60 and a Salina Shriner belonging to the Greeters Group.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Leonard R. Schneider Jr. and wife, Stacey, Salina; five daughters, Rhonda Tonne, Salina, Renee Stallings and husband, Stanton, Jetmore, Roleta Henry and husband, Mike, Gypsum, Roberta Neuburger and husband, Bob, Salina, and Robin Schneider and Dan Wessel, both of Plainville; two brothers, Kenneth Schneider and wife, Dorothy, WaKeeney and Vernon Schneider and wife, LaVeta, Ransom; a sister, Clarice Bell, Keller, Texas; a brother-in-law, Ron Schwien, Ransom; nine grandsons Curtis and wife, Shaleah Tonne, Brandon, Devon and Spencer, Nick and Cody, John and Carlos Henry, and Leonard "LJ"; 11 granddaughters, Tera and husband Jon Olivigni, Jessica Tonne, Kimberly and husband Clayton Reed, Tina and Steffanie Stallings; Emily and husband Matt Heller, Casey and Brittney, Myranda, Chelsey and Caitlin; five great-grandsons, Chandler, Terry, Jacob, Brenton and Joseph "TJ"; and three great-granddaughters, McKenzi, Josie and Raegan.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Terry Tonne; a brother, Harm Leon Schneider; three sisters Jasmine and Dorothy Schneider and LaDonna Schwien; and a brother-in-law, Rex Bell.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity United Methodist Church, Salina; graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in WaKeeney Veterans Cemetery, with military honors by the U.S. Navy.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today, with family present from 6 to 7 p.m. at Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Memorials are suggested to the Leonard Schneider Memorial Fund in care of the mortuary.
