Irene Pfeifer
Irene Pfeifer, 92, Hays, died Saturday, Sept. 6, 2008, at Hays Good Samaritan Center.
She was born March 12, 1916, in Schoenchen to Paul and Clara (Randa) Dinges.
She married Eugene A. "Gene" Pfeifer on July 21, 1936, in Schoenchen. He preceded her in death on Jan. 19, 2000. She worked with her husband in several business ventures and was a homemaker.
She was an excellent cook, and pie making was her specialty. She loved to dance and play cards.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Altar Society Christian Mothers, both of Hays.
Survivors include two sons, Daniel and wife, Emily, and William, all of Hays; a daughter, Kay Stegman and husband, Dennis, Elkhorn, Neb.; four brothers, Ambrose Dinges, Denver, Celestine Dinges and wife, Jo (Dreiling), and Rudy Dinges, all of Thornton, Colo., and Patrick Dinges and wife, Betty (Gabel), Brighton, Colo.; three sisters, Mary Werth, Hays, Germaine Hoffman, Brighton, and Frances Kindsfather, Albuquerque, N.M.; two brothers-in-law, Marcel Pfeifer and wife, Erma (Mills), Hays, and Jack Needham, Liberty, Mo.; three sisters-in-law, Frieda (Staab) Dinges, Mesa, Ariz., Alice (Werth) Dinges-Windholz, and Roberta (Silver) Pfeifer, Harrisonville, Mo.; 13 grandchildren, Kevan Pfeifer and wife, Melanie, Billings, Mont., Robin Pfeifer, Miles City, Mont., Stephanie Pedersen and husband, Leslie, Aurora, Colo., Randy Pfeifer wife, Debby, Hays, Kimberly Weber and husband, Brian, Manhattan, Doug Pfeifer and wife, Tina, Topeka, Brad Pfeifer and wife, Britt, Colby, Brian Pfeifer and wife, Jamie, Lincoln, Neb., Chad Pfeifer and wife, Heather, Lakewood, Colo., Michael Stegman and wife, Karen, Columbus, Neb., Mark Stegman and wife, Mary Jo, and Patti Hasty and husband, Michael, all of Omaha, Neb., and Father Thomas Stegman SJ, Boston; 36 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by an infant great-grandson, Chance Pfeifer; six brothers, Alois, Isidore, Leonard, Sylvester, Jerome and Ralph; a sister, Louise Weber; seven sisters-in-law, Sister Mary Vita Pfeifer, Geraldine (Pfeifer) Needham, Gilberta (Reed) Pfeifer, Sylvia (Dreiling) Dinges, Loretta (Werth) Dinges, Loretta (Weber) Dinges, Kathryn (Weingard) Dinges, and six brothers-in-law, Alfred Pfeifer, Louis Pfeifer, Edward Kindsfather, John Weber, Ben Hoffman and Ted Werth.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church; burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, both at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine.
An Altar Society Christian Mothers rosary will be at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Hays Good Samaritan Center, Masses or charity of donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
