Garland Moore
Garland Moore, 85, Roby, Texas, and formerly of Fisher County, died Friday, Aug. 1, 2008, at the county's hospital.
He was born Sept. 26, 1922, in Roby to Allie Rae (Thompson) Moore and Lee Warren Moore. He attended Roby Schools.
He married Glenna Gene Knox in November 1939. She preceded him in death May 17, 2004. He later married Edith (Lankford) Moore in January 2005. He was a farmer and worked for the Texas Highway Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II and was a training instructor at Camp Roberts, Calif., for the duration of the war.
He was an active community leader, participating in organizations as the Fisher County Fair and Rodeo Association, the Roby School Board and the Roby Food Bank and Clothes Closet. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Roby, serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was instrumental in the fundraising and construction of the new sanctuary built in 1973.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Billy Mac Moore and wife, Mary, Huntsville, Texas; two daughters, Linda Moore-Lanning and husband, Lee, Crystal Beach, Texas, and Brenda Herrman and husband, Les, Hays; six grandchildren, Reveilee Lanning, Phoenix, Jason Moore and wife, Holly, Pearland, Texas, Cynthia Henderson and husband, Gary, Elizabeth, Colo., Meridith Lanning, Los Angeles, Melissa Moore, Austin, Texas; and Kimberly Kilhoffer and husband, Tony, Tulsa, Okla.; eight great-grandchildren, Greyson Henderson, Allyanna Corcoran, David Neary, Michael Neary, Trevor Moore, Drew Kilhoffer, Kamryn Moore and Cannon Kilhoffer; and 19 nieces and nephews.
Services were today at First Baptist Church, Roby; burial in Roby Cemetery.
Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
