Fred A. May, 92, Ellis, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Ellis Good Samaritan Center.

He was born Nov. 24, 1916, in Minnesota to Fred and Adamine (Armbrister) May. He was a 1936 graduate of Ellis High School.

He married Ila Rose Harshbarger on Oct. 27, 1939, in Ellis. She preceded him in death July 5, 2000. He was an engineer for Union Pacific Railroad for 30 years.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Ellis.

Survivors include two sons, Leon May, Gilbert Ariz., and Stephen May, Sterling, Colo.; a daughter, Barbara Kroeger, Wichita; three sisters, Amilia Hamrick, Florida, and Margaret Stiffler and Alma Kelly, both of Ellis; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Keithley Funeral Chapel, 400 E. 17th, Ellis; burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Ellis.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Monday, both at the funeral home.

Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Church or Hospice of Hays Medical Center in care of the funeral home.
