Bill Eugene Johnston

Bill Eugene Johnston, 84, Osborne, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at Osborne County Memorial Hospital, Osborne.

He was born Feb. 15, 1924, in Cedar in Smith County to James Orbrey and Elsie (Peterson) Johnston.

He married Marjorie (Bales) Johnston on Aug. 15, 1943. He was a farmer. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons, Jerry Johnston and Rex Johnston, both of Alton; two daughters, Ruth Elaine Dunn, Cobden, Ill., and Cindy Little, Auburn; a sister, Sally Herndon, Glen Elder; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Johnston, in 1955.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mount Ayr Friends Church, Alton; burial in Mount Ayr Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Clark-Gashaw Chapel, Osborne.

Memorials are suggested to Alton American Legion or Mount Ayr Friends Church in care of the chapel.
