Alvin R. Sander, 89, Victoria, died Thursday, May 8, 2008, at St. John's Health Care Center, Victoria.
He was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Walker to Ulrich and Anna (Rome) Sander.
He married Ventura (Berens) on Feb. 6, 1939, in Emmeram. He was a roustabout for Amoco Oil Co. for 34 years.
He was a member of St. Fidelis Catholic Church, 3rd degree and 4th degree Assembly Knights of Columbus, all of Victoria.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; a son, Dywane Sander, Victoria; two daughters, Jeanette "Speedy" Sander and Lois Sander, both of Victoria; a son-in-law, Don Smith, Hays; two granddaughters, Rachel Herl and husband, Mark, and ReaLeann Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Elena Herl.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Janice "Jan" Smith, two brothers, Michael Sander, Adam Sander, five sisters, Lidwina Weigel, Celestine Windholz, Josephine Sander, Anna Sander, Germaine Berens, a infant brother, Rudolph Sander, and a infant sister, Leona Sander.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria; burial in St. Fidelis Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, both at Cline's Mortuary 412 Main, Victoria, KS 67671.
A vigil will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday, a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 7 p.m., followed by a 3rd and 4th degree rosary at 7:30 p.m., all at the mortuary.
The 4th Degree will stand honor guard from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Western Plains Animal Refuge Inc., or Masses in care of the mortuary.
