Daycare suspended

An emergency notice of suspension was given to a Hays day care provider Monday.

The suspension notice, released by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, states a complaint survey was made against Jannette Leigh Walter and the home day care she operates at 1311 Golden Belt Drive.

The complaint stated three children, all about 3 years old, were found napping in car seats in a "warm and darkened bedroom with a fan running," one on top of the bed and the others on either side.

According to the notice, Walter later verbally agreed to stop having children sleep in car seats again, but a compliance check the next day found children restrained in the same manner.

The child care facility surveyors reported the children did not seem uncomfortable or exhibit any signs of wanting to leave the car seat, but said padding on the devices felt damp with sweat and noted the thermostat registered the room to be 80 degrees.

The KDHE document concluded Walter "did not use sound judgment and an understanding of children ... when she napped children in car seats to restrain them."

Walter, who was issued certification to run the day care facility in February, has the right to request a hearing to appeal the decisions made by KDHE. Failure to do so within 15 days would make the suspension notice final and would suspend Walter's certificate of registration to operate a family day care home.

Why would you do that to children, would you want someone to do that to your child? Let her serve time from a restrained seat for days.

I am sure she would not want to be in those sleeping conditions and should make proper arrangements for the children. I would not put my child through that!
