Felten sculptures among art finalists
Felten, Hays, is joined by the bronze sculpture of the Buffalo Bill statute just outside Oakley, crafted by Leoti resident Charlie Norton, along with what is being called the Garden of Eden, Lucas, grassroots art mecca.
Although not located in northwest Kansas, there is a connection to the Kansas art collection in the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art in Manhattan. Ross and Marianna Beach, benefactors of the museum, were long-time residents of Hays.
Ever humble, Felten expressed delight with the inclusion of the Lucas grassroots art collection.
“That’s my inspiration,” he said of the Grassroots Art Museum now operating in Lucas. Felten and other artists in Kansas were instrumental in the development of the museum as well as the purchase of the Garden of Eden in Lucas.
The 8 Wonders campaign is a product of the Kansas Sampler Foundation in Inman. It has already conducted a campaign recognizing the 8 Wonders of Kansas and recently completed a campaign to recognize the architectural wonders of the state.
