Beamer expected to wage write-in campaign

Printer-friendly version

DIGHTON (HNS) -- Don Hineman, the Dighton farmer-rancher who edged out State Rep. Virginia Beamer in the August Republican primary, is bracing for write-in opposition.

Hineman said Friday that he has learned that state Legislature officials expect Beamer to wage a write-in bid in the Nov. 4 general election.

Beamer, 69, could not be reached at her Oakley home. Also, Harris News was unable to contact Speaker of the House Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls.

Hineman, 61, narrowly defeated Beamer, who asked for a recount. His victory survived the manual recount. No Democrat or Independent candidate filed to seek the House seat, so Hineman's name will be the only one appearing on the November ballot for the 118th District race.

Hineman, a former Lane County commissioner, announced in a press release Friday that he will continue to campaign.

The 118th District includes all of Lane, Rush, Wichita, Wallace, Logan, Gove and Trego counties and portions of Ness County.
