Printer-friendly version

By The Hays Daily News

LARNED --¬ The Thomas More Prep-Marian girls' and boys' track and field teams finished third and fourth, respectively, at the Mid-State Activities Association conference meet Friday. The Monarchs, led by senior Kim Haberman and freshman Brianna Halligan, had several top individual performances.

Haberman won three individual events in the 100, long jump and triple jump. Hallagin was second to Haberman in the 100, won the 200, and finished second to Haberman in the long jump.

Haberman ran 12 seconds to win the 100-meter and re-broke her own school record by .2 seconds. Entering this weekend, only three girls in the state, including Ellis' Whitney Taylor, had run 12 seconds or faster. Hallagin was second in a time of 12.64.

Hallagin won the 200 meters by nearly a second when she ran 26.54. In the long jump, Haberman, Kansas' leader regardless of classification in both the long jump and triple jump, leapt 17-7, while Halligan was at 15-6Ôªø1âÑ2.

In the triple jump, Haberman jumped 37-4, while Monarch junior Taryn Kippes finished second. Kippes also finished second in the high jump. Senior Molly Schmeidler was third in the 1,600 (6:06) and freshman Hayley Taylor was third in the pole vault (8-6).

On the boys' side, junior Drew Thomas finished second in the high jump (6-2) and discus (140-8). Junior Nathan Felder won the pole vault (11-6) and was fourth in the triple jump (38-7). Junior Clint Barnes was fourth in the shot put.
