By The Hays Daily News
McPHERSON -- Both local prep boys' soccer teams won games Saturday at the fourth annual McPherson Invitational.
Hays High School shut out Salina South 3-0 in the third-place game, while Thomas More Prep-Marian used a big second half to defeat Word of Life, 8-2.
Hays High senior Thayne Griffin scored two goals in the Indians' win, and was named to the all-tournament team. Devin Schmidt also scored for Hays High (2-1).
It's the third straight year HHS took third after winning the inaugural tourney in 2005.
TMP-Marian was tied with Word of Life at 2-2 at halftime in a match played in the rain. The Monarchs poured it on in the second half, scoring six unanswered goals.
Darren Wellbrock was credited with two goals for TMP-Marian (1-2), as was Teddy Kang and Jason Mayers.
