Thomas More Prep-Marian senior standout Darren Wellbrock has garnered numerous postseason soccer honors, including second-team all-state recognition in Class 4-1A by the Kansas Soccer Coaches Association, an organization involving schools across the entire state.
Wellbrock helped lead the Monarchs, in just their fourth year of existence, to their best-ever record at 8-8.
Wellbrock, the Monarchs' second-leading scorer with 12 goals, controlled the middle of the field for TMP-Marian, which scored a school-record 71 goals in 16 games while recording five shutouts.
Wellbrock also was chosen as a first-team all-region pick in Class 4-1A by the Southwest Kansas Soccer Coaches Association, as well as second-team all state honors by the same organization.
The SWKSCA also honored Hays High School senior Thayne Griffin, who tied the Indians' single-season scoring record with 16 goals this year.
Griffin, a second-team all-region selection in Class 5A, played forward for the Indians, who finished 5-11 this season.
