Mark Johnson has never had a team lose to an NAIA opponent.
Tony Hobson will try to have his team bounce back after losing to an NAIA opponent.
The Fort Hays State University men's and women's basketball teams will play host to NAIA Ottawa University Saturday at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The women's game starts at 5:30 p.m., with the men tipping off at 7:30 p.m.
On Monday, Johnson improved his career record to 32-0 against NAIA teams in the Tigers' 75-52 home victory over Bethany College. Hobson, in his first year on the Tiger bench, saw his women's squad lose 74-68 to visiting Kansas Wesleyan University the same night.
The Ottawa men are 3-4. The Braves lost 92-64 at Emporia State University on Tuesday. The Ottawa women's team is 1-6 and on a five-game losing streak. They lost 85-78 at Avila University on Tuesday. The Fort Hays women lost 71-66 to Avila on a neutral court earlier this year.
The Fort Hays men are 4-0 heading into Saturday's game. Junior forward Tim Peintner is averaging a double-double, with 14 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Corbin Kuntzsch is averaging 13 points, and senior guard Tyrone Evans is averaging 11.3 points. Evans connected on six 3-pointers for a game-high 18 points in the win over Bethany.
The Fort Hays women are 2-3 and have dropped their last two games. Junior guard Naomi Bancroft leads the Tigers in scoring at 17.8 points per game and is shooting 40 percent from 3-point land. Junior forward Erica Biel is averaging a double-double, with 14.8 points and 11.8 rebounds per game. Bancroft scored 19 points and Biel added 18 in the loss against Kansas Wesleyan.
