HHS volleyball moves to 14-13

COLBY -- The Hays High School volleyball team pushed its record to 14-13 on the year with a 2-1 finish Monday at the Colby Quadrangular.
The Indians lost in a Western Athletic Conference matchup with Liberal, dropping a 2-0 match (25-16, 26-24), and fell to Phillipsburg for the third time in three days, 2-0 (25-15, 25-21). Hays High defeated host Colby, 2-1, for its only win of the day, winning 14-25, 25-18, 25-13.
In the match against Liberal, Raena Sander led the way with five kills for the Indians with eight assists from Liz Shelton. Emily Younger had five digs in the match.
Against Phillipsburg, Lindsey Schmeidler recorded three kills to lead the Indians, while Shelton had four assists and four digs. In the win over Colby, Sander recorded seven kills and Shelton had 15 assists with Carissa Wickham having seven digs.
In Saturday action at Great Bend, Hays High went 1-3 on the day, defeating Lyons 2-0, but falling to Phillipsburg, 2-0, St. John, 2-0, and Phillipsburg, again, 2-0, in the third-place match.
The Indians' varsity will next compete in the WAC Championships in Dodge City on Oct. 18.
