TOPEKA -- The Fort Hays State University volleyball team finished 2-2 in the Washburn University Invitational Tournmant this weekend.
The Tigers split their action both Friday and Saturday, moving to 8-10 on the season, heading into this week's stretch in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.
Fort Hays began action Friday with a 3-2 win over Incarnate Word, claiming a 15-8 win in the tiebreaking game. Lilian Rezende recorded a match-high 26 kills, hitting .426 with three errors, helped out by 35 assists for Whitney Hoffman. Tracie Hileman added 20 kills and Katelyn Lapham led the Tigers' back row with 21 digs. Whitney Liggett also added 22 assists.
Fort Hays followed the win up with a 3-2 loss to University of Texas-Permain Basin, dropping the tiebreaker 15-13 after four close games, 25-22, 22-25, 30-32, 21-25. Rezended recorded 30 kills in teh match with 31 assists for Hoffman and 31 digs for Lapham. Rezend also had 27 digs for the Tigers, who will be in Wednesday action at Pittsburg State Univeristy.
In Saturday action, Fort Hays loss 3-0 to Central Oklahoma, dropping games 25-19, 25-15, and 25-14. Hileman had just seven kills to lead the way for the Tigers, who had 17 errors, hitting just .137 as a team. Lapham had 16 of the Tigers' 39 digs.
The Tigers closed the tourney with a 3-1 win over East Central Oklahoma (25-16, 17-25, 25-14, 25-18). Rezende had 16 kills and Hileman added 10 with 19 assists from Hoffman. Liggett and Samantha Kern had 12 and 11 digs, respectively as the Tigers moved to 8-10.
Fort Hays will play at Pittsburg on Wednesday, before returning home for a four-match MIAA homestand, which begins with a Friday matchup with Missouri Southern at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Tigers will host Soutthwest Baptist on Saturday at GMC.
